Ashley is a Senior Data Scientist at the Center for Computation and Visualization (CCV) at Brown University. She is from the D.C. area and based in Pawtucket, RI, where she shares a home with her partner and beloved dog. She grew up traveling to Korea every summer to visit family and take in her ancestral homeland. As a young person, haenyeo (Hangul: 해녀 for ‘sea women’) imprinted on her a model for how to move through the world (photograph by David Alan Harvey). They dive year round without the assistance of breathing gear in search of seafood to sell at the market, and they are a symbol of female grit and power. Ashley aspires to the determination, strength, and independence of these women. As a queer person of color, it is important to her to center BIPOC while pursuing her career and interests. Her professional interests include data visualization, machine learning, and design. Her personal interests include playing the banjo, woodworking, landscaping, running, bicycling, and taking care of her beloved dog and plants.
